Project Adapted
The project aims to provide a focal point in higher education for research, course development and consultancy related to providing practical support for adapted physical activities and sports.
We are especially involved in the design and development of basic adapted physical activities, games and sports equipment, for people and youngsters with severe physical, sensory and intellectual impairments.
About the unit
Project Adapted arose out of the need for practical guidance for teacher training students on a specialist course to teach the learning disabled in the mid 1970s at Nottingham Trent University.
Unit development
Learn about the history and development of the adapted sports project.
Games development
Project Adapted started by developing a number of basic adapted games and activities as prototypes. Each of the games were developed with the assistance of students from Nottingham Trent University in conjunction with a number of organisations.
The adapting technique
Project Adapted has developed the adapting technique to assist those who teach, learn or coach adapt physical activities for people and youngsters with severe physical, sensory and intellectual impairments.
The adapted games
The games developed by Project Adapted have been researched and designed in order to enable people of all ages with a range of learning disabilities and impairments to participate actively in sporting activity.
