NTU Music are delighted to welcome Don Lucas and Ian Palmer to Nottingham for two evenings of world-class music.

An Evening with Don Lucas

On Thursday 17 November, the Old Chemistry Theatre will play host to one of the world's top trombone soloists and tutors – Don Lucas.

Don Lucas is in high demand across the USA and the world, and his solo performances have included Wigmore Hall, JFK Center, and the Weil Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. Throughout his career he has been awarded many significant prizes, including the renowned Premier Prix at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Notably, he is the only brass musician ever to receive this prize.

The programme will be varied, and will also feature a performance alongside brass players from NTU, who will be taking part in a masterclass led by the virtuoso trombonist during the day of the concert.

Tickets are £10 (£5 for students) and will include a glass of wine.

An Evening with Ian Palmer

Following the Don Lucas evening, NTU Music will host one of the world's most influential drummers, Ian Palmer, as he shares his infectious passion for the drums at the NTU Students' Union on Tuesday 22 November.

Ian Palmer's career has seen him perform and record regularly in Europe's most famous jazz club, Ronnie Scott's, and perform with world-renowned orchestras and conductors, notably the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle. He has also found time to set up successful music projects such as his chart-topping band, The Ghosts.

During the evening, expect lively and informative discussion on subjects such as drum set technique, the drummer's role in music, and the concepts that allow the drummer to become an artist with an individual voice. This evening will be inspiring for drummers and musicians of all ages and abilities.

Tickets are £10 (£5 for students).
