The NTU Doctoral School held its annual Postgraduate Research Conference earlier this month, which aims to recognise the successes of our PhD and Professional Doctorate students.

The conference welcomed a host of key speakers showcasing award winning research, together with a programme of interactive workshops, poster viewing sessions and the ‘Three Minute Thesis Challenge’, in which students attempt to summarise their thesis in to just three minutes!

The conference underlines the importance of NTU’s postgraduate research student community in the pursuit of research excellence and impact. NTU has a community of over 750 research degree students whose research aligns with the current broad disciplines within our Academic Schools and the specialist areas of research that our academic and research staff pursue, in both established and emerging areas.

A number of prizes were awarded as part of the conference, including a ‘Doc-umentary’ photo prize which was awarded to Robert Davies – a full-time PhD student within the School of Social Sciences – for a striking image depicting his research in to the effect of speaking on a mobile phone whilst driving.

Other prize winners at the conference included:

  • MPhil/PhD Poster judges prize: Yasameen Al-Ameen

  • Poster submission audience prize: Heather Alberro
