Summer school attendees 2016
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Edward Peck, is delighted to announce that scholarships are being offered to NTU students wishing to participate in Mandarin summer language courses at Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) in China.
There are up to ten scholarships available which will cover your flights, visa costs, tuition fees and accommodation during the four week language programme in August 2017.
The scholarships are open to full-fee paying students with a demonstrable interest in China and learning the Chinese language. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to improve and enhance your language skills, immerse yourself in Chinese culture, make connections, increase your confidence and be an ambassador for NTU.
Known as The Mini-United Nations, the prestigious BLCU is the only University of its kind in China offering Chinese language and culture courses to foreign students. Since its foundation BLCU has trained over 160,000 foreign students, who are proficient in the Chinese language and familiar with Chinese culture, from 176 different countries and regions.
BLCU graduates spread all over the world and include government ministers, parliament speakers, other government officials, and senior diplomats who are all playing important roles in promoting mutual understanding between China and the world.
Rebecca Mulvany, a previous scholarship winner, said that her "progression from the beginning to the end of the course was dramatic." When asked where she would like to visit next she replied that she "absolutely cannot wait to return to China! It's captured my heart in a way I really didn't expect. I've also decided that I want to become a diplomat for the FCO, and this trip was a major catalyst for this decision". Rebecca is currently doing an International Relations Masters and applying for the graduate scheme at FCO.
The closing date for submission of application forms is Sunday 15 January 2017. Interviews will be held on 7 February 2017.
