Opportunities

Students in Classrooms Associates

The role: Associates work alongside an established classroom teacher to offer support in a primary or secondary school, academy, or college. Associates undertake a range of activities, working one-to-one with pupils and in small groups. Examples include listening to readers, supporting practical classroom activities, helping with coursework, and delivering presentations that raise awareness of higher education. Associates also have the opportunity to experience some aspects of teaching outside of the classroom, such as planning and preparation for lessons.

The scheme aims to help raise attainment levels, to develop pupil character, and to raise awareness about opportunities available post-16 and within higher education.

Commitment required: Associates are expected to complete ten placement days (six hours per placement day) undertaking the equivalent of one day a week (one full day or two half days). Regular, consistent attendance is expected.

The school: Associate placements take place in schools across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, including Mansfield and Ashfield. For secondary placements, Associates will be asked to indicate their subject area of preference. Ideally it would be relevant to your current degree studies, although we will also take into account strong A-level or equivalent qualifications. We particularly welcome interest from the following subject areas: maths, science, English, history, geography, ICT, design technology, art, and modern foreign languages.

Interested? We welcome applications from all current students studying at Nottingham Trent University and The University of Nottingham. All interested students must attend an awareness raising meeting to be eligible to apply. You do not need to sign up – just turn up.

Student Ambassadors

The role: Nottingham Trent University delivers a wide range of events and activities aimed primarily at pupils from Year 5 to Year 13, their teachers, and their parents or carers. These are designed to raise aspirations and attainment, build character, and increase awareness of higher education and the opportunities it can offer. Ambassadors play an important role in the delivery of these events, acting as positive role models, tour guides and group leaders, and providing general support.

We are looking for students who can motivate young people, encourage resilience, challenge perceptions, share their honest experiences, and provide inspiration!

Commitment required: Ambassadors receive a schedule of events on a monthly basis and must then indicate which events they are able to support. Events may vary from one hour to one full day. We do not ask for a minimum or maximum number of events, but we do need our Ambassadors to be committed and reliable.

Interested? We welcome applications from all current students studying at Nottingham Trent University and The University of Nottingham. All interested students must attend an awareness raising meeting to be eligible to apply. You do not need to sign up – just turn up.
