Student led projects
Would you like the opportunity to volunteer with local schools and colleges? Nottingham Trent Volunteering provide the chance to get valuable schools experience while raising the aspirations or attainment of young people and their families. These opportunities are great for students looking to work with children, maybe those looking to pursue a career in teaching or those looking to give back to the local community.
Schools and student Led projects
These projects provide a number of opportunities where you are able to you use your skills to benefit local children and young people. You could be using your language skills through our Language Buddies programme. We also have a number of projects that go in to local schools and colleges, which are led and run by students. These range from Model United Nations projects, projects focusing on the conservation of endangered animals, and debating workshops.
Nottingham Trent Children's University
Children's University (CU) is a national scheme recognising and rewarding children (aged 7-14) for the learning they do, voluntarily, outside of the normal school day. There are over 70 CU centres across the country. Nottingham Trent Children’s University currently works with 8 local schools.
Children travel to different CU activities with their ‘Passport to Learning’, collecting stamps as they go. They are awarded national certificates at bronze (30 stamps), silver (65) and gold (100). They are presented their gold award at a graduation ceremony at NTU in the summer.
We want to give you the opportunity to get involved! We think you are a fantastic role model for the CU cohort as you are also looking to do something voluntarily outside of your NTU studies. You could:
- help run an existing CU club at a school
- develop your own CU activity
- supporting a CU activity we run here at NTU
- contribute to our CU blog / newsletter.
So whether you have an hour a week to spare (excluding travel time) or would like something more flexible – CU could be for you!
It is worth noting that CU activities link to courses that could be studied at further or higher education. So you could do something linked to your course, or you may have a hobby or interest that would be perfect for CU! The possibilities are endless!

The Volunteering Team works within Schools, Colleges and Community Outreach which runs programmes to help high-achieving students from disadvantaged backgrounds access and succeed at university. By taking part in schools volunteering projects you are taking an extra step to support this work and help local children and young people to succeed.
