What experience counts
What experience counts?
The award accredits experience gained outside of your studies. To qualify for this you need to complete a minimum number of extra-curricular experience hours. The experience could include paid/unpaid or voluntary experience.
Undergraduates must complete a minimum of 50 hours.
Postgraduate taught students must complete a minimum of 25 hours.
Where you might gain experience
The Acceler8 Award can count a range of experience towards the experience hours. To help you find opportunities to complete your experience, below is a list of useful websites. This is not an exhaustive list, but serves as a guideline. You may also want to check with your academic School for details of experience opportunities to get involved in.
Enterprise, Challenges, Competitions
Peer to Peer Mentors
Library Mentors or Academic School Mentoring Programmes
Paid and non-paid work experience
Student work experience might include a combination of NTU-organised activities, such as Nottingham Trent Volunteering or being a member of a sports committee; or paid employment at weekends or evening work in the retail sector.
What constitutes volunteering outside of NTU?
Volunteering is any formal activity that aims to benefit the environment, individuals or groups, undertaken through public, private and voluntary organisations as well as informal community participation and campaigning. It is freely undertaken and not for financial gain and would not generally involve helping close relatives.
All experience must be completed whilst a NTU student and must not be a compulsory part of your course. Acceler8 can count prior experience. An example might be summer / vacation work during your first year.
Remember, it will be more beneficial if you engage in gaining relevant skills and knowledge from more than one type of work experience. If you have any queries regarding experience counting towards Acceler8 email us.
