Collections and Resources
Our collection of library materials is constantly being reviewed so what we have matches what you and your students need.
The main priority of our collection is to ensure that we meet the needs of students, so all essential texts included in module resource lists are available. We will purchase an electronic copy of a book, if one is available. Resource lists can consist of books, journals, magazines, eBooks, eJournals, audio visual materials, conference papers, market research reports, online image databases, information freely available on the web, etc.
Beyond this we aim to maintain and develop broader collections providing background resources that complement material on resource lists. This material will encourage students to use as wide a range of relevant information as possible; reading beyond the resource list. We are happy to trial services and make resource recommendations if they're of relevance to student learning.
The University's Information Resources Policy is available online if you'd like to find out more.
Nottingham Trent University's Resource List Management Software (RLMS) makes it easy for you to design clear and accurate resource lists for your modules, and to make them available to your students through your NOW Learning Room.
The lists provide live links to Library OneSearch and a real time view of book availability, making it straightforward for your students to keep up with core and recommended reading. The system can also link to eBooks, online journal articles and other web-based learning materials.
Lists can be created by using RLMS's bookmarklet and drag and drop tools. When completed and sent to us for review, we'll check to make sure we have what’s needed, including any new books that need buying.
You can use the system to request digitised articles or book chapters for your students – especially useful where the article isn't available electronically already, or the library only has print copies.
NTU resource lists are searchable by module code or title, or you can browse by School or College. You will have automatic authoring rights on any list where you are a named member of staff on the corresponding Learning Room on NOW.
