Borrowing

Following feedback from students and staff we have revised how many items you can borrow, the length of loan, fines, renewals and introduced recalls on requested items. If you're unsure how these changes affect you then please consult a member of staff at the Information Desks or contact the Library.

What are the fines on overdue items?

  • 25p per day for 1 week and 4 week loans, to a maximum of £5 per item
  • 25p per hour for 4 hour loans, to a maximum of £5 per item

Remember you won't be able to borrow or renew books if you have:

  • very overdue books
  • fines of £10 or more

You can avoid fines by returning or renewing your books on time. If you have fines you can pay at the self-service kiosks or any library Information Desk.

Renewing items on loan
We will email you the day before an item is due back to remind you to return or renew it. You can renew four week and one week loan items an unlimited number of times provided no-one else has requested them.

You can renew items using the self-service kiosks in each Library, online using NOW or Library OneSearch, or by contacting the Library.

Requesting items already out on loan
You can request up to ten items at a time by using your Library OneSearch account. You can request items which are available at another campus Library but not those held at the Library where you are registered. We will contact you when your items are ready to collect.

Recalling requested items
We may recall items on loan to you if someone else requests them. Recalled items may need to be returned early but we will give you one week to return them. If you do not return the item by the new due date then you will incur fines and your Library account may be locked preventing you from borrowing further items.

Using self-service kiosks
You can borrow, return and renew items using the self-service kiosks in each Library, as well as paying your Library fines. They are easy to use but if you have any difficulties please consult a member of Library staff at the Information Desks.
