Experiential Projects

In your final semester you'll take on a major experiential project*, giving you a fantastic opportunity to use the theories and knowledge you've gained to produce a challenging piece of work with real impact. This can involve addressing real-world challenges in the workplace, conducting independent research or gaining valuable experience internationally.

You can choose from one of the following projects:

Consultancy Experience Project

Working in a group of about five people, you will be assigned a business challenge supplied by a real-life company which you will need to solve. You will have six weeks to complete the challenge with academic supervision and at the end of the six weeks you will need to present your findings back to your client company along with a 3000 word written report, before undertaking individual reflective and conceptual assignments.

Rhian Davies studied MSc Marketing and commented saying "getting the opportunity to apply theory to a practical situation was important to me, so the consultancy project was key to me choosing this course."

Internship Experience Project

The internship experience allows individual students the chance to work on a real-life business challenge whilst working full time, unpaid, within the client organisation. Successful applicants will be assigned a challenge within a local client business where you will work individually for about six weeks. During this time you'll apply the theories you've learnt to a substantial, live project and at the end project you will deliver a 3000 word written report and presentation to your client.

Global Experience Project

This exciting project gives you the opportunity to travel overseas and attend a summer school at one of our partner institutions. Previously students who have undertaken this project have gone to:

  • Jyväskylä, Finland
  • Lisbon, Portugal
  • Vienna, Austria
  • Barcelona, Spain
  • Toulose, France
  • Brussels, Belgium; and
  • Budapest, Hungary

During your time you will be involved in teaching, assignments, company visits and cultural engagement activities such as museum and city tours. This is a fantastic opportunity for global exposure and learning in another culture.

Business Research Project

This project is a traditional piece of independent research, creating an academic research paper, presentation, and methodological reflection. This project is only available to students with significant prior work experience or the desire to progress to a PhD.

IMPORTANT BIT

You will need to apply for a place on all of the Experiential Projects, as places are not guaranteed. Each are subject to availability and all students will go through a screening process prior to being accepted. Your engagement with your course will also be taken into consideration during the screening process. For the Internship Experience Project you will need to undertake an interview.

*Excluding MSc Entrepreneurship, MSc International Business (Dual Degree), and MSc Human Resource Management, as they have specialised final projects specific to their programme. Please see course page for full details.
