Study abroad and Erasmus+

At Nottingham Law School we encourage students to spend some of their time studying in another country. You have the opportunity to study in Europe with our Erasmus+ exchange programme, study in Australia with our study abroad scheme, or study in the US via the ISEP scheme.

The country you can study in, and for how long, will depend upon your course. The exchange programme is currently for students studying:

  • LLB (Hons) Law (Semester Two of Year Two or Year Three)
  • LLB (Hons) Business Law (Semester Two of Year Two or Year Three)
  • LLB (Hons) International Law (Semester Two of Year Two or Year Three)
  • LLB (Hons) Law with Business (Year Three)
  • LLB (Hons) Law with Criminology (Year Three)
  • LLB (Hons) Law with Psychology (Year Three)

The Erasmus+ exchange programme provides a marvellous opportunity to spend a semester or a year in Europe as part of your degree. All students who participate in the Erasmus+ programme are eligible to apply for a generous, non-repayable, Erasmus+ Grant to help with the cost of travelling and living abroad. Supplementary funding is available to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds or with additional support needs.

You will experience another culture and a new way of looking at law, benefiting from both the academic and personal experiences, making new friends and growing as a person. Take a look at the British Council's webpages for more information and advice on studying abroad.

Our European and Erasmus+ exchange partners are:

Study Abroad

Nottingham Law School also has a student exchange agreement with the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia. There are places for two students to attend for one semester between February and July. Our Australia partners are increasing and it may be possible for you to study in Perth, at either Murdoch University or Edith Cowan University.

Full details of the exchange and study abroad programmes will be circulated to eligible students.

International Student Exchange Programme (ISEP)

Nottingham Trent University is a member of the ISEP, an American organisation specialising in student exchanges between universities across the world. NTU has a specialist ISEP coordinator who will help you with your application; however, we will need to approve the courses that you study during your exchange before your application is submitted. Bear in mind that in the USA and a number of other countries, law can only be studied at postgraduate level – you may have to study subjects that complement law, such as international relations or politics. Find out more by visiting the ISEP website.

The usual duration of a USA exchange is one year, starting in September. There are additional costs associated with this exchange scheme.

NLS Summer Schools

If you don't want to study abroad for a whole semester or academic year then Nottingham Law School runs one-week long summer schools each year in Europe.

If you have queries about any of these opportunities, please contact the exchange coordinator

Please note: We are constantly looking to enhance and refine the international opportunities available to our students, and therefore our study abroad and Erasmus+ exchange partners are subject to change.
