About me: I have 30 years’ experience as a leadership and organisational development specialist, predominantly in the corporate sector. Early in my career, I worked as a Consultant determining market development opportunities for blue chip companies. Following consultancy, I spent 17 years with Rolls-Royce in a wide variety of roles, leaving the company in 2015 as Head of Executive Development.

Academic Practice Development Manager

How I can help: I lead the Academic Practice team, providing consultancy services to enhance learning, teaching, assessment and practice for your course teams.

My team leads and co-delivers the Post Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP), the Introduction to Learning, Teaching and Assessment for Associate Lecturers, Technicians and PGR students, and the Success for Tutoring and Mentoring Programme. Alongside this, we lead and support the Professional Recognition Scheme supporting applicants to achieve membership of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).

About me: I have developed and delivered on PGCAP programmes and lead and implemented CPD schemes at the universities of Derby, Aston and Hull. At Hull, working with Directorate, I actively lead on ‘Curriculum 2016’. The project, designed to rethink curriculum strategy, involved holding workshops with disciplinary areas to design the curriculum ‘big ideas’. I have previously held external examining positions at the Universities of Glamorgan and Southampton Solent.

Fiona McKerlie DipM MBA

Researcher Development Manager

How I can help: In close collaboration with colleagues across the University, I support NTU’s research ambitions through the design and delivery of NTU’s Researcher Development Framework aligned to the ‘Valuing Ideas’ theme of NTU’s strategy. I am responsible for identifying and responding to university and local researcher development needs from Postgraduate Research Students through to Distinguished Professors, and for brokering, delivering, supporting and evaluating researcher learning and development activity across the organisation. I chair the Concordat for the Career Development of Researchers Management Group at NTU and work closely with Academic Schools and NTU’s Doctoral School to develop core and bespoke Researcher Development provision. I am happy to speak with you about our Researcher Development activity and how we can support your career as a research professional.

About me: I have worked in a number of professional roles within HE, predominantly managing strategic research and enterprise projects that involve public engagement with research. How I can help: Within the Organisational Development team I work closely with the Doctoral School to deliver essential skills workshops for researchers at different stages of their career.
