Natural Sciences Research Facility
This centre enhances the School’s research in physics, biosciences, chemistry, imaging, materials and sports performance. From radiology to astrophysics, oceanography to archaeology, the centre is fully equipped with specialist laboratories and advanced technical equipment to meet the needs of postgraduate research in all areas of natural science.
Our research groups at the School of Science and Technology work in collaboration with a range of national and international centres of research excellence and the facility houses laboratories to support these specialist disciplines, together with office space dedicated to research workers and research students.
The facility is well-equipped with tools including:
- optics and imaging equipment such as optical tweezers, materials MRI and optical coherence tomography
- a Performance Analysis Laboratory which provides ergonomic and motion analysis equipment for sport science research
- research grade FTIR
- microbial genomics facilities incorporating microarray facility, Roche 480 lightcycler and genome sequence data analysis hi-performance computing suite.
The Natural Sciences Research Facility is based in the Centre for Effective Learning in Science (CELS) building on Clifton campus.
