Staff sport

NTU Sport is as committed to providing sporting opportunities to university staff as it is to our students. We understand that sport and exercise can often come second to your professional and social lives, and so we have therefore created programmes aimed to fit in with your busy lifestyles and provide some relief from day-to-day stress.

Other ways to get involved

There are a number of ways staff can get involved with NTU Sport alongside the staff sport timetable. See below the different options available to you depending on your level of ability, or if you just simply want to work out.

Squash and Tennis leagues

We have created Squash and Tennis leagues that will happen over the summer months. There will be no entry fee – you just need to email us with your name, sport choices, and what league you’d like to be involved in.

We know that availability over the summer can be hard to pin down, so these leagues will run monthly, and you have a month in which to arrange your matches. You do not need to play at the Clifton Campus sports facilities, but obviously these are the best, so why would you want to go elsewhere? All normal court hire fees apply so if you already have a gym membership with us, you can enjoy more free use of our courts!

Squash league

  • Three tiers of league to match your playing level against others of similar standard
  • Open classification, and female only classification
  • No equipment provided, but all available on hire from NTU Sports Facilities
  • Weekly emails with league tables updates and scores included

Tennis league

  • Three tiers of league to match your playing level against others of similar standard
  • Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Singles, Women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles classifications
  • No equipment provided, but all available on hire from NTU Sports Facilities
  • Weekly emails with league tables updates and scores included

Each league will take place over 1 calendar month, and all games need to take place within that month. It will be down to the players to arrange games against the other people in that league, and to update the score to NTU Sport. Any games not played (or unreported) by the deadline on each league will be void and no points awarded.

At the end of each month, the players at the top of the league will be promoted into the league above, and players at the bottom of the league relegated. Should sufficient demand exist, multiple leagues in the relevant tiers will be created, and a playoff for the top players arranged.

The first games will take place from 5th June 2017 so don’t wait! Any new entrants will begin in the bottom tier and work their way up!

Golf

Staff can access coaching sessions and discounted membership at Ruddington Golf club.

  • Beginner sessions will take place on a Monday, from 6pm to 7pm, starting 5th June and final session 16th June.
  • Intermediate sessions will happen on Wednesdays, from 6pm to 7pm, staring 7th June and final session 18th Jun
  • 5 weeks of coaching lessons for just £15*. The final session will involve a competition, putting your learning into practice around a 9-hole course.
