Current student and Torchbearer - Chloe Jones

NTU Textile Design graduate and first year MA Fashion Business student Chloe Jones said: "We were called in to meet the Vice-Chancellor and I didn't know what to expect. I was in shock when they told me I'd been selected - out of all the students in the University. I'm really grateful. It's a brilliant opportunity and I'm so excited."

Following a serious accident in which she tragically lost her leg, Chloe came back to University, finished her course and went on to do an MA. Not letting her injury limit her success, Chloe has inspirationally gone on to win the title ‘Miss Nottingham - Charity', create a clothing collection tailored for people with missing limbs and conduct research into the treatment of those with a missing limb. She was also chosen to receive the Vice-Chancellor's Award and is now working towards the launch of her own clothing range.

Current student and Torchbearer - Emma Vickers

Emma Vickers, second year BSc Hons Psychology with Sports Science student said of the opportunity: "It was a huge surprise and quite unexpected. I am really proud to be representing NTU."

Emma is now ranked fifth in table tennis in England. She recently won two gold medals at the British Universities Sport National Championships and has just won the under 21s national title for the third time. Emma has also created a table tennis team at NTU to inspire others to take up the sport.

Comment from NTU's Vice-Chancellor

When asked how he felt about two NTU students being chosen to carry the Olympic Torch, NTU's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Neil Gorman, said: "The opportunity comes once in a life-time, so demand for the opportunity was high and we've got two great candidates - one who is a potential Olympic athlete and one who has overcome great adversity. It's a marvellous initiative - the excitement around the Olympics is palpable."
