eNews: Success in the national Green Gown Awards
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Dr Petra Molthan-Hill, of NBS, who was named Sustainability Professional of the Year at the Environmental Association of Universities and Colleges’ annual Green Gown Awards dinner. The prestigious Green Gown Awards are for outstanding contributions to sustainability at universities and colleges across the UK.
Petra, who is Principal Lecturer in Business Sustainability, won the award for her leadership of NTU’s Green Academy team supporting the integration of sustainability into our curriculum in every School. The award is well deserved recognition for Petra's tireless work in this area over recent years. More details on all the projects and a video describing the work of Petra and her team are now available online.
As well as Petra’s award, NTU also secured a highly commended award for our Sustainable Food submission ‘You are what you eat’, which was praised by the judges for its breadth. Ivan Hopkins and his team have successfully embedded sustainability into all aspect of our catering service and in the submission we also highlighted the Foodshare allotment project and a new initiative to donate uneaten sandwiches to the homeless of Nottingham.
We were also very pleased that two estates projects were shortlisted against strong national competition. The Pavilion building at Clifton Campus was a finalist in the Sustainable Built Environment category and our ‘Greening the City’ project was a finalist in the Sustainable Facilities category.
At NTU we are fully committed to embedding sustainability into everything we do and, following on from the recent Gold result in the Life index audit, our performance in these awards reinforces our position at the leading edge of sustainability in our sector.
Congratulations to all those involved in these projects.
