Research students

We offer a wide variety of services and resources to support you as a postgraduate research student. The Library Research Team provides training sessions and briefings, and one-to-one support and advice on:

Check the library website for our circulation policies, including how many items you can borrow, the length of loan, fines, and renewals

If you reside in the UK you can register to use the postal loan service, which allows you to have print books from our collections sent to your home. Please note, you will be responsible for returning the books to the library. Before you can use this service you need to complete an online registration form.

You are not restricted to using NTU Libraries' stock. You can request material not stocked by NTU using the 'Get My Book' or 'Get My Journal Article' online forms. You can also register for the SCONUL Access scheme, which allows you to borrow books from any of the participating libraries.

Study environment
Research rooms are available at each site, providing spacious desks and PCs, and storage facilities for small items at Boots Library and Clifton Library. The rooms offer extensive opening hours and are located on the ground floors of the Brackenhurst and Clifton libraries, and on the first floor of the Boots Library.

Your thesis and copyright
One of the University requirements is to deposit your doctoral thesis in the University's repository (IRep), which will then lead to automatic deposit of your thesis in EThOS, the British Library repository. The guide Preparing your thesis for publication PDF icon explains what you need to consider with regards to third party copyright material and the inclusion of any papers you may have had published.

The accompanying guide Publishing from your eThesis PDF icon provides information and advice about publishing journal articles and books or chapters from your thesis after it has been made publicly available in IRep and EThOS.
