NTU Chamber Choir performing at Southwell Minster

Who are we?

The NTU Chamber Choir is an award-winning, auditioned ensemble comprising of students, staff and alumni from the university and is directed by the Director of Music, Matthew Hopkins. We perform a varied repertoire from Baroque to Contemporary music and have performed in many venues across the UK and Europe.


We rehearse on Wednesdays (term-time only) between 2 pm – 4 pm in the Ensemble Room at the Music Centre.

Previous performances

The NTU Chamber Choir has performed in many exciting concerts and events over the last few years. Highlights include:

  • March 2017 - Mass in Blue at Southwell Minster
  • December 2016 - Christmas Lunchtime Concert at the Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham
  • November 2016 - North Wales Choral Festival at Venue Cymru, Llandudno. 
  • April 2016 - Russell Watson Tour at the Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham
  • April 2016 - Dream of Gerontius with the Philharmonia Orchestra at the Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham
  • April 2016 - Performed at the Sagrada Familia, Monserrat Abbey, Barcelona Cathedral during the Chamber Choir tour

International Chamber Choir tour

Every year the Chamber Choir embark on an international tour and in the past we have visited Holland, Spain, Czech Republic and Hungary. 

Our last tour was particularly exciting as we travelled outside of Europe for the first time and performed in venues across New Delhi and Chandigargh, India. You can read about our tour to India here

Audition for the NTU Chamber Choir!

Auditions for the NTU Chamber Choir usually take place in the week following Welcome Week. During the audition you are required to sing a song of your choice and perform a short piece of sight reading.
