Learning in Higher Education
Using methods of best practice in educational research, CELS develop more effective ways to teach and support science students in higher education (HE).
Since CELS began a range of educational research projects have been carried out. These relates focus on the research, development and evaluation of new methods and resources in science teaching.
CELS Educational Research Projects
A number of research and development projects that have been undertaken at CELS. These include:
- impact of technology on Learning
- contextualised learning
- animations and simulations
- threshold concepts and troublesome knowledge
- transitions into HE.
The Centre has provided a number of secondment opportunities, which have enabled staff from the School of Science and Technology to complete educational research projects.
In order to develop more effective ways to teach and support science in HE two teams were created, 'Teams for Integrated Projects across Science' (TIPS) and the 'Teams for Outreach Projects in Science' (TOPS). Seconded staff were released from their teaching activities to work on their chosen research project.
