Continuing Professional Development

Tailored professional training

At the School of Social Sciences we make the most of our strengths both as experts in our subject and teachers of it. In addition to the courses offered, we run a range of acclaimed professional programmes, designed in partnership with local authorities, accreditation boards and practitioners, to give people the specific employment skills they need.

We can help you develop your own training programmes, working with you to establish objectives which will make a real difference to the skills of your people.

Specialist programmes developed include:

  • MA Advanced Social Work Practice
This is a flexible course that offers registered social workers an integrated academic and professional qualification in the area of children and families social work. It will support  learning from initial qualification as a social worker through to experienced and advanced levels of practice in line with the Professional Capabilities Framework. This course is an ideal opportunity for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) which will support continued registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a qualified practitioner who has demonstrated commitment to and involvement in CPD.
  • MA Public Health
This course has been designed in response to contemporary debates about the changing nature and shift in boundaries of multidisciplinary public health.
  • BA (Hons) Youth Justice
This course is designed for those interested in working with young people who offend or are at risk of doing so. It is specially supported by the Youth Justice Board for England and Wales.
