Our wide range of health and fitness support is the perfect complement to the amazing sport facilities you'll find on and off campus.

From personal training to Boditrax, we've got the support you need to get the most out of your training, and our dedicated professional fitness instructors are on hand to offer any help you may need.

Our instructors are experts in a number of specialised areas, including:

  • flexibility and movement
  • resistance and weight training
  • sports performance, and much more.

Boditrax

Boditrax is a powerful software based package that scans the body and calculates body fat, muscle mass and more. The Boditrax kiosk is easy to use, just stand on the scales hold onto the handles and your results will be with you in seconds.

We offer Boditrax appointments with our qualified fitness instructors, who will discuss and add context to your results, for the cost of £5 for NTU Active members and £8.50 for non-members.

Alternatively, you can use unlimited Boditrax solo scans for £20 if you're a member or £40 for non-members.

One-to-one fitness packages

We offer one-to-one instructor-led sessions for a fraction of your average personal training price. There are three packages available, which are both led by our dedicated fitness instructors. Each package will include an initial assessment, a Boditrax scan and a personalised fitness programme.

Exercise induction

This appointment provides a complete induction for all the equipment in the fitness suite at NTU Sport. The exercise induction can take up to 60 minutes and is free for NTU Sport Active members.

Our fitness instructors

Niall Carson

Niall has a degree in BSc Strength, Conditioning and Rehabilitation and over 6 years’ experience within the fitness industry. Niall is an approachable fitness instructor specialising in strength and power training, sport specific performance, increasing muscle mass, and conditioning including prehabilitation. He enjoys playing Basketball at a competitive level and his favourite exercises are Squats and Deadlifts.

Paul Taylor

Paul has 15 years of experience in the fitness industry as an Instructor and Personal Trainer. He is a corrective exercise specialist, who pinpoints muscle dysfunctions and helps improve posture and human movement performance for sport. Other qualifications include Strength and Conditioning, MMA fitness, Spin, Nutrition and Holistic Meditation and Relaxation. Paul has a background in Athletics and Thai Boxing, but now enjoys Mountain Biking and staying active. His favourite exercises include overhead press and bodyweight exercises.

Bella Winn

Bella has a degree in BSc Exercise, Nutrition and Health which she gained here at NTU. She thrives on making a difference to anyone’s experience whether that’s in the gym, water or high up in the sky. She is a very diverse instructor with the willingness to motivate and guide individuals to achieve their goals, specialising predominately in weight loss. Bella has a background in taekwondo, rock climbing and swimming but has a direct link through NTU as she still plays football at a competitive level as a member of the NTUWFC. Bella always likes to keep active and her favourite exercise in the gym is deadlifts and bent over row.

Cassian Powell

Cassian has completed his L2 Gym Instructing and L3 Personal Training and has also achieved a degree in Sports Coaching at Derby University. He specialises in strength training for all athletes from grass roots to performance sports. Cassian has previously run for Notts AC in the 100m and 200m achieving PB’s of 10.75 and 21.78. He has previously played football for Mansfield Town; his favoured position is strike. Cassian’s favourite exercises in the gym are deadlift and bench press.

Gus Draude-Waters

Qualifications; level 2 fitness instructor, level 3 personal trainer, indoor cycle group exercise qualification. He has worked in various gyms as an instructor for over 6 years. He has a wide range of knowledge to help you achieve goals of muscle building, weight/fat loss or strength increase. He’s currently studying to gain a qualification in level 4 strength and conditioning. He exercises daily and enjoys pushing clients to their limits and helping people achieve their goals. His favourite exercises are pull ups and incline dumbbell press.
