Lacrosse at NTU
Lacrosse at NTU is a first-class, performance-based environment where talented athletes can also pursue educational excellence in their chosen career path.
NTU Head of Lacrosse, Sam Patterson, manages the whole Lacrosse programme at NTU that competes in the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) competition; with the men's first team competing in the Premier North division and having also played in the National Championship final in 2017. The men’s second team also compete in Midlands 2A division whilst the women's first team compete in Midlands 2A and their second team in Midlands 2B.
As a performance athlete at NTU you can expect two to three lacrosse sessions and two strength and conditioning sessions per week, full-time physio support, weekly matches in the BUCS competition, and additional tournaments.
As a performance sport, lacrosse benefits from additional on-site physiotherapy, nutrition and sport psychology support. Athletes will also receive one-to-one support in goal setting and personal development. Alongside the lacrosse-specific support, sports scholars will receive additional mentorship support in their academic, lifestyle, and career development.
NTU Lacrosse performance squad athletes have the opportunity to enter the English Lacrosse talent pathway through representation for the English Universities which could lead to international representation opportunities.
Sam Patterson - Head of Lacrosse
Sam is a current England international with over a decade’s experience playing for his country. He is currently lead coach for the English Lacrosse National Academy and was an assistant coach for England U19’s in 2008.
Sam manages the entire Lacrosse programme at NTU. He is responsible for the performance of the Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse programme, the player’s development, and the management of the coaching staff and support services.

Scholar Success Story - William Hardy
Will is a current BA Economics undergraduate Lacrosse scholar at NTU and Team England member. Will recently represented England in the 2016 European Championships where he helped the team claim gold. Will was also recently selected for the Team England 2018 World Championships roster.
Scholar Success Story – Zac Guy
Zac is a current International Business MSc postgraduate Lacrosse scholar at NTU and Team England member. Zac recently competed in the 2016 European Championships where England won gold and Zac was named as the tournaments best attacker. Before attending NTU, Zac played for Georgetown University in NCAA D1. He was also earned All-American honors in 2008 and 2009, and was an Under Amour All-American in 2009.
