Professor Peter Jones
Co-opted Member of the NTU Development Board
A graduate of Bristol University, Peter qualified as a solicitor in 1973. He became partner in a London based law firm at the age of 25 and at the age of 28 was a founding partner of Euston based solicitors Hodge Jones & Allen - a firm now widely regarded by its counterparts as a radical and progressive force in community based legal representation in the UK.
Having practiced at partner level here in Nottingham, Peter joined Nottingham Trent University in the mid 1980’s, working as a senior lecturer in Law. He was awarded the title of Professor in 1989, before becoming Chief Executive of Nottingham Law School Limited in 1996. A year later he was named Dean of Nottingham Law School, and under his direction, the School progressed to become one of best professionally based law schools in the country – a reputation that it still holds today.
In 2003, Peter was appointed as Pro Vice-Chancellor responsible for research, business and international development, and in 2005 he became Senior Pro Vice-Chancellor, Academic Development and Research.
In 2010, Peter was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, in recognition of his services to higher education and the legal profession.
Peter retired from the University in March 2011.
