Dignity and Respect
Respect at NTU. Give it. Get it. Expect it.
The brief Respect at NTU video is a great introduction to the NTU ethos. The university is firmly committed to sustaining a highly effective learning environment characterised by fairness, equality of opportunity, and the valuing of diversity. Principles of dignity and respect underpin all that we do, and NTU has very clear expectations around how all members of its community treat – and are treated by – others.
These expectations, together with routes and services for addressing related issues, are detailed in the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy 
and expanded on in the Dignity and Respect Policy . You may also want to look at NTU’s Trans Equality Policy Statement .
The key messages of the Respect at NTU campaign are:
- Respect is important to NTU, helping to maintain a positive, healthy environment for work and study.
- Respect makes for a better place to work, learn and live.
- We all have a shared responsibility to make it happen. We can lead by example, and challenge or report behaviours which don't match the NTU standard.

Respect and consent
Nationally and locally, concerns have been raised in recent years around sexual harassment, assault and consent on campuses. NTU has been tackling these issues head-on for several years and has strong support pathways established both within NTU and in the local community. Universities UK released a report (Changing the Culture) in October 2016 examining violence against women, harassment and hate crime affecting university students, which cites Respect at NTU as an example of good practice in raising cross-institutional awareness of behavioural expectations. Under the Respect at NTU umbrella, comes our collaborative Consent is Everything campaign with the Students' Union.

The Students' Union Consent is Everything video is a great resource for peer education around consent: what it is, what is isn't, giving it and getting it.
If you are a student and need general information, advice or support about these issues, visit the Student Services Respect and Consent webpage. Student Services also co-ordinate practical support for students who have experienced sexual violence or a hate crime/incident.
