Assessment periods for 2019/20 academic year

The University's main exam periods for the forthcoming academic year are:

  • Half year assessment period: 20 January – 31 January 2020
  • Main assessment period: 11 May - 5 June 2020
  • Resit assessment period: 17 August - 28 August 2020
Please note
All students are required to be available to sit their examinations for the entire published period. Examinations may be scheduled during the day, Saturdays or on a day where you may not usually attend classes.

Some Schools may also hold other exams outside the above periods, please consult your local Subject or School Administrator for further clarification.

The examination schedules are produced by Academic Registry using dedicated software for which the overarching factor is the production of a timetable with no, or as few as possible, student clashes.

Wherever possible, we attempt to provide students a minimum of a day in between each examination. While attempts are made to ensure that students have a spread of examination dates throughout the examination period, in many cases this is not possible given the institutional constraints on the numbers of examination venues that are available, the number of examinations that are scheduled to take place and the options available to students on any particular course of study.

Final year undergraduate exams are usually assigned during the first two weeks of the main assessment period.

Religious Commitments

If you have any religious commitments that prevent you from sitting exams on a particular day of the week, please email reg.examinations@ntu.ac.uk

Whilst we cannot guarantee that exams can be avoided during these periods, Academic Registry will make every attempt to schedule exams around commitments, where notified in time.

In order for religious commitments to be taken into account when scheduling exams, notification must be received at the above email address by the following deadlines:

If you require any specific adjustments for your exams, due to a disability, injury or ongoing condition which could affect your exam performance, you must contact the Student Services team for an assessment of your requirements.

Student Services will then pass on any recommendations to Academic Registry who will put the adjustments in place. We advise you to contact Student Services as soon as possible on commencement of your course to ensure enough time for the necessary adjustments to be considered and the correct paperwork submitted.

Recommendations received after the deadlines shown below cannot be accommodated but will be put in place, where appropriate, for the following exam period.
