NTU Global Summer School student buddies
Do you love NTU and are you staying in Nottingham this summer? We are looking for friendly NTU students to welcome International students between 6 - 31 July 2020.
What is Global Summer School (GSS)?
Global Summer School is a 4-week summer programme which welcomes students from around the world to study at NTU. It enables them to experience life at NTU, and the UK, by taking short credit-bearing courses over the summer break in a wide range of subjects. The courses are two or three weeks in duration and run from 6 - 31 July 2020.
One of the aims of GSS is to showcase the best of NTU and Nottingham and make NTU the 'university of choice' for international students to continue their education after completing their current course. You can show them the best places to eat, drink, shop and visit in Nottingham and showcase our amazing campus/s and facilities!
The Role
We are recruiting a team of Global Summer School Student Buddies who will join one or two of our 2-week summer school courses (worth £1100) alongside the international students. You will attend all classes and complete any assignments given to you by your tutor/s. Upon successfully completing the course you will be awarded a certificate and 10 credit points* which will be recorded on your diploma supplement (HEAR). You will support the students on your course and encourage them to attend all sessions on time and to engage with their tutor/s.
*will not count towards your degree.
As a buddy you will help to welcome, support and offer friendship to all of our international summer school students especially the ones on your course. You will attend free of charge, after course and weekend social activities and encourage the students on your course to attend and engage with these sessions. The duties include:
- Pre-arrival introductions and support by email / WeChat
- Sunday welcome and campus tour
- Monday welcome and NTU Card Collection
- Participating in arranged social activities after class / during the evenings
- Accompanying students on a free UK city trip and local sightseeing activities.
You will be given a £40 per course allowance towards any expenses outside of the arranged social programme - for example, having meals, going to the cinema / ice skating with your students.
We are particularly keen to recruit Chinese speaking NTU students due to the large number of Chinese students attending GSS.
Eligibility:
- UG fully enrolled students who are available for the whole duration of their chosen course/s;
- PG students are welcome to apply however, please note that all GSS courses are set at Year 2 UG student level;
- Students must be available to attend all course sessions;
- Students must be available and willing to carry out all duties listed and attend all social activities.
