Police registration
Certain international students are required to register with the police within seven days of arrival in the UK as a condition of their visa. This is likely to apply to you if you are on a course of longer than six months duration and are a national of one of the following countries:
A-B | C-J | K-N | O-P | T-Y |
---|---|---|---|---|
Afghanistan Algeria Argentina Armenia Azerbaijan Bahrain Belarus Bolivia Brazil | China Colombia Cuba Egypt Georgia Iran Iraq Israel Jordan | Kazakhstan Kyrgyzstan Kuwait Lebanon Libya Moldova Morocco North Korea | Oman Palestine Peru Qatar Russia Saudi Arabia Sudan Syria | Tajikistan Tunisia Turkey Turkmenistan UAE Ukraine Uzbekistan Yemen |
Students who fall into this category must, in addition to registering with the police upon arrival in the UK, inform the police if any of their personal details change. This includes updating them of any changes of your address in Nottingham, and every time you get a new visa or passport.
If you are required to register with the police and you fail to do so or fail to provide the required updates, this is a breach of your visa conditions. This can lead to problems when travelling back to the UK or when making future visa applications. UKVI can also decide to curtail (shorten) your visa if they become aware that you have not complied with this requirement and are in breach of your visa conditions. It is therefore very important that you ensure that you register with the police if you are required to do so and that you keep your registration certificate up to date.
Students who need to register with the police or update their existing police registration certificate (with a new address or new visa for example) will need to visit the Central Police Station (Byron House, Maid Marian Way, Nottingham, NG1 6HS) to book an appointment. You must ensure you book your appointment within 7 days of arrival in the UK, or within 7 days of the change of address/visa/passport.
You will need to complete the Nottinghamshire
Police
Overseas
Visitors Registration form to make your payment at Barclays Bank. You will also need to complete the Police Registration Proforma
before attending your appointment to register with the police.
