Karlsruhe Cultural Festival Video Competition

NTU Global are looking for students from any NTU course (including Confetti) to produce a short video responding to the question: "What does Europe mean to me?

We want you to think about what Europe means to you and how this might have influenced your own identity. Perhaps you feel part of a big family at NTU and enjoy its values and diversity? Europe could mean the opportunity to travel, meet new people from different cultures and learn new languages.

Why apply?

A panel of 3 judges from NTU and the Creative Quarter will judge the entries and select one lucky winner to showcase their video at the Karlsruhe Cultural Festival on 5 May 2020. The winning prize will include the cost of flights, accommodation and up to £200 spending money to stay in Karlsruhe in Germany (Nottingham’s twin city) for two nights (5 and 6 May).

Deadline

Vice Chancellor's Mandarin Scholarships

About

A once in a lifetime opportunity for 10 students to spend four-weeks in Beijing, China, learning Mandarin Chinese at the prestigious Beijing Language and Culture University with all expenses paid!

Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) was founded in 1962 and is the only international university in China whose main task is to teach the Chinese language and culture to foreign students. This aim creates a unique cultural atmosphere of diversity which attracts a large number of students from both home and abroad. The BLCU campus is close to Wudaokou – the centre of the University district in Beijing. 

The summer language course takes place in August and consists of 20 hours of intensive Mandarin Chinese lessons per week, for four weeks, with homework to complete some afternoons. On arrival at BLCU, students will be tested on their language skills and placed into classes at the appropriate level, from beginners to advanced. Class are held from 8am to 12noon.

Basic accommodation is provided at the International Hostel based on two sharing.

Cost

The scholarships covers your tuition and accommodation fees, your return flights to BLCU and your visa application fees, including transport to London for biometrics. You will be responsible for your UK transfers and living expenses while in Beijing. You will also be responsible for arranging any vaccinations needed with your GP.

Eligibility

These scholarships are open to NTU students who are available to attend the whole of the summer school, and have at least 6 months validity on their passports at the time of departure. Visiting / incoming exchange students and final year UG/PG students who are due to graduate in July 2020 are NOT eligible to apply.

China Summer Schools

NTU Global are delighted to present this opportunity for students to spend two-weeks in Chengdu, China, participating in summer schools at two of China’s most prestigious universities:

  • Sichuan University (July - date to be confirmed) – University Immersion Program (10+ scholarships available)
  • Southwestern University of Finance & Economics (5 - 18 July) – Discover SWUFE (2 scholarships available)

At both summer schools you can choose from a variety of courses which are all taught in English. The programme includes lectures, workshops and company visits, and social and cultural activities for you to participate in to give you a unique opportunity to experience Chinese academia and culture, and to network with other students from around the world - as well as making life-long friends.

Accommodation

Your host university will provide accommodation in good standard hotels usually based on two sharing and with ensuite bathrooms and air conditioning.

While you are in China you will be supported by a team of Student Buddies who will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel. They will take you out and about, help you to translate Mandarin to English, introduce you to Chinese culture, help with any issues you may have and become firm friends.

These scholarships are a unique opportunity to do something different with your summer to experience a new culture and enhance your NTU studies in a very short amount of time. Your experience in China may help you to decide on your future career path / the direction of your studies and change your work ethic.

Cost

The scholarship covers your tuition and accommodation fees! You will be responsible for the cost of your visa (around £150), return flights (between £400 - £600) and living expenses. Help with these costs may be available by applying for an additional travel scholarship but can’t be guaranteed. You will be responsible for applying for your short study visa (which will include a visit to a visa centre for biometrics), arranging your own return flights, and booking your vaccinations with your GP.
