Virtual Vice-Chancellor Mandarin Scholarships
About
An amazing opportunity for NTU students to learn Mandarin Chinese through live online courses run by tutors from the prestigious Beijing Language and Culture University with tuition fee paid.
Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) was founded in 1962 and is the only international university in China whose main task is to teach the Chinese language and culture to foreign students. This creates a unique cultural atmosphere of diversity which attracts a large number of students from the UK and internationally.
The online language course takes place over four weeks from 3 - 28 August 2020 and consists of 20 hours of intensive Mandarin Chinese lessons per week (4 hours per weekday). Students will be tested on their language skills via an online test and placed into classes at the appropriate level, from beginners to advanced.
There are two options for class times:
- 8.30 am – 12.30 pm (Chinese standard time)
- 6 pm – 9.50 pm (Chinese standard time)

Cost
The scholarship covers the online course fee.
Who can apply?
These scholarships are open to NTU students who are available to participate in the whole of the online course. You do not need to have any current Mandarin language skills however, you should be able to demonstrate an interest in China and the Chinese culture, and explain why the online language course would be beneficial to you.
Visiting / incoming exchange students and final year UG/PG students who are due to graduate in July 2020 are NOT eligible to apply.

Virtual Fiji Internship with Think Pacific
About
Think Pacific Foundation is a registered Charity in Fiji and a UK social enterprise which works in partnerships with local Government Ministries, the University of the South Pacific, and other stakeholders, to achieve ethical, responsible and sustainable development in remote Fijian communities.
The virtual internships will help you to achieve purposeful projects which tackle international development issues and achieve real outcomes. The internships are completed online. You will need a computer, phone and internet connection. You will be connected with real life projects supporting communities in the Fiji islands, receive insightful mentoring, coaching and support to help you contribute to global issues.
This internship is a unique opportunity to:
- Gain work experience in the charity and NGO sector
- Contribute to the Fiji National Development Plan and UN Sustainable Development Goals.
- Choose your own career field which supports local impact in Fiji
- Complete a NGO and Sustainable Development Internship Coaching Program
- Learn from Charity Trustees, Social Entrepreneurs, Government Advisors and Fijian Professionals.
Your internship can focus on Business and Enterprise, Global Health, Global Psychology, International Development, Global Education, Marketing, Sports Development or NGO Management.
There are various programme start dates from between 29 June and 17 August.

Cost
£495 with one-third of your fees supporting charity and partnership programmes in Fiji.
Who can apply?
NTU students and graduates who want to gain internship experience to enhance their skills, gain knowledge, improve their CV and create global connections. Prior experience is not necessary; however, you should have a thirst for experiencing your chosen field in a global context, alongside a real passion, energy and enthusiasm to help Think Pacific’s Fijian partners to achieve their sustainable development aims.

International Student exchange Online Summer programmes
ICDS - Costa Rica: Latin American Health Care & Development Studies
When: 20 July – 28 August 2020
About: Focused on sustainability, social justice, and health, students enrolled in ICDS’s summer program can choose between two six-week program tracks with optional in-person experiential learning in January. The first track, Spanish & Health Care in Latin America, prepares students for health professions. Students will gain Spanish language proficiency and take courses taught in cooperation with Hospital Clínica Bíblica. In the Business & Sustainable Development track, students analyse business strategies and public-private schemes that contribute to sustainable development in Latin America.
Application deadline: 15 June. Optional in-person: January 2021.
Universidad Blas Pascal - Argentina: Language & Culture Virtual Summer Program
When: 13 July 13 – 7 August
About: This 4-week summer program explores Argentine culture through intermediate and advanced Spanish language coursework. During 2-hour daily live sessions, students study Spanish language and grammar at an intermediate level. The online program includes a virtual city tour, Latin American rhythm classes, and a workshop on traditional cuisine. Students interact with a local Argentine student as a buddy throughout the program.

Online Summer at American College of Thessaloniki (ACT)
When: 11 June – 19 July
About: Participants will join Greek students and ACT faculty for online classes. A wide range of courses are available, including business, marketing, economics, photography, Greek language, and humanities. ACT will provide online library services, tutoring, and writing centre resources. All students can participate in academic workshops, student competitions, and career development programming.

Providence University - Taiwan: Mandarin, Business & Taiwanese Culture Virtual Summer
When: 4 weeks, 1 – 29 July 29. 6 weeks, 1 July 1 – 13 August
About: Providence University’s Chinese Language, Culture and Business Program is available for four or six weeks at basic, intermediate, or advanced levels. The language class will develop Mandarin listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, and students will practice daily situational conversations. Students study Taiwanese culture and Asian business practices and enjoy cultural learning opportunities, including Taiwanese cooking instruction.
