Global language

Language Café

Join us for an afternoon to practise speaking different languages in a relaxed and friendly setting. Whether it is Spanish, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Mandarin, Arabic, English, or any other language, you'll have the chance to improve, teach, and show off your skills – all while meeting new people and utilising this interactive method of learning.

  • City Global Lounge, every Tuesday 5 pm – 7 pm. Now based at 23 Goldsmith Street, opposite the Newton building. Find out more.
  • Clifton NTSU Basement Bar, every Thursday, 2 pm – 4 pm

You can also become a Language Café volunteer! If you're fluent in more than one language and are interested in learning and teaching languages, then this is the role for you. All you'll have to do is make sure students feel welcome and have the opportunity to learn languages, prepare topics of conversation and help run a language table, help come up with ideas of how to grow the Language Café community and promote language programmes, and collect feedback from students. You don't have to attend each week, and you'll only need to commit to 10 sessions per academic year. All this while meeting people from around the world, learning new languages and about different cultures and gaining valuable experience for your CV! If you'd like to get involved, email us, and we'll send you more information.

Language in Tandem

If you're looking for different ways to practise a language, then sign up and we will find a language exchange partner for you.

We'll pair you up with a native speaker of the language you want to learn. So, if your first language is English and you want to learn Spanish, we'll find a fluent Spanish speaker wanting to improve their English.

You'll arrange to meet for an hour or more every week, and each of you will benefit from at least 30 minutes' language practise.

The scheme is open to all NTU staff and students. Whatever language you speak, at whatever level, sign up today!

Please email us if you have any questions.
